Award-Winning Living at Rainbow Point
Designed by Darren McCutchan Architecture, this award-winning home makes the most of its long, narrow site overlooking Lake Taupō. Positioned to capture expansive views across Three Mile Bay Boat Ramp towards Acacia Bay and the western bays, every aspect of the design has been carefully considered to connect the home with its stunning surroundings while delivering exceptional comfort and performance.
A key priority from the outset was creating a home that would perform exceptionally well year-round. Advanced construction methods and premium materials were selected throughout, including a MAXRaft insulated concrete slab, heavily insulated wall systems, a Viking TPO WarmSpan roof, and imported European triple-glazed windows and doors. Together, these elements deliver outstanding thermal efficiency, ensuring the home remains comfortable while reducing energy demand.
The exterior combines Euro Selekta Clad vertical weatherboards with 20mm Bluestone stone slip cladding, creating a striking yet low-maintenance façade that complements the natural landscape. Rich textures and clean architectural lines give the home a timeless appearance while ensuring it is built to stand the test of time.
At the heart of the home is a sheltered north-facing courtyard featuring a tranquil water feature. Visible from both the entry and central gallery, this outdoor space brings natural light into the home while creating a peaceful focal point that seamlessly links the interior with the outdoors.
The exceptional craftsmanship and collaboration between Darren McCutchan Architecture and Haimes Building have been recognised with both Regional and National Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards, celebrating a home that excels not only in design and construction, but in the quality of everyday living it provides.
